    Buchanan Tartan Clan History

    The founder of the clan was an Irish warrior who, in about 1016m helped Scotland's Malcolm II in his battles to repel Viking invaders. The grateful monarch rewarded him with lands to the east of Loch Lomond, from which the clan takes its name. In the early 14th century they joined with Robert the Bruce in the struggle for the nation's freedom English domination.

    The early origin of this family is said to be a son of the king of Ulster who landed in Argyll around 1016 and was rewarded with land
